Wingspan goes up a gear with new Zerma shredder

WINGSPAN Plastics, one of the busiest film recyclers in the Western Cape, has recently gone up a gear with the installation of a large Zerma single-shaft

    shredder.

The ZSS-2000 unit is being used to pre-shred LD fi lm and bags at the company in Sacks Circle, Bellville. Wingspan’s monthly volumes put it among the top recyclers in the region. It supplies the recycled LD pellet to fi lm and pipe manufacturers.

Both post-industrial scrap and postconsumer material is being processed.

The Zerma ZSS series shredder is a formidable piece of equipment with a no-nonsense operational style. Through decades of experience, the engineers at Zerma have managed to reduce maintenance requirements to all-time lows, meaning that 24/7 continuous operation is virtually guaranteed.

Wingspan is part of the Wykco Group, one of the largest independent multi-material recycling businesses in South Africa. The group’s logistics and transportation systems, as well as capabilities have given it considerable momentum in the waste and recycling sector.

Started by Nick van Wyk as Cape Waste in 1983, Wykco has since expanded from its base in Beaconvale, Cape Town, to Gauteng and KZN. It also owns West Coast Packaging, the film and bag-making business in Strand, Western Cape.

Under the directorship of Herman Pieterse, Johan van der Merwe and Wykco CEO Nico van Wyk, Wingspan is “on a mission to collect and process as much plastic as humanly possible”.
